The Rise of Wives

Women are “increasingly better-educated than their husbands and have emerged as the dominant income-provider in one of five marriages,” according to a new Pew Research Center study. “What’s radically changed is that marriage now is a better deal for men,” said report co-author Richard Fry. These trends have been reinforced by the recession, which has “hurt employment of men more than that of women.”

I posed this question on twitter the other day. "If had 2 masters degrees and drove a range rover, would you marry me?"

I got 2 proposals! ...from women. (NO HOMO and It was in jest but still..)

I hear very few buppie men say that they are ok with marrying women who may make a bit more money OR have more education. I mean women are raised to seek stability. So a man with a stable income, is desirable. Whereas men are raised to be breadwinners. If technically, the woman is the breadwinner, how attractive is that situation?

...Obviously a woman with 2 masters degrees and a Range Rover are NOT. LOL <--- The District's Buppie in 5 years.

So based on this article 4 out of 5 marriages the man is the breadwinner? OK.

I don't have a problem being with a woman who is the breadwinner. I don't know too many men who have a problem with it, they may hate the personality of someone who is a breadwinner but not really.

yall know I'm all about breaking SOME of the gender roles and stereotypes. In America, we dont need those old school traditional roles that some other cultures still use.

Not to get away from the topic but it troubles me that women that have all this power, all this money, own their own homes, are still stressing marriage :-/

Either we are going to have to accept that men dont want their woman more successful than them and let marriage dreams go

or hope to find a man that is happy with our success and isn't stuck on those old school ideals

Either way is empowering for women

If a person uses "If I had 2 masters degrees and drove a Range Rover, would you marry me?" as a true assessment of the person they should marry, then they're definitely starting off on the wrong foot.

How about I'm loyal, respectful and considerate...or any of these other pretty non-materialistic words.

Even "I have no kids" is better. Lol.
